The Fresno City College baseball team opened its season in thrilling fashion at home, hosting the defending CCCAA state champion Mounties and sweeping the doubleheader at Fresno City College Ballpark on Jan. 24.
The Rams took game one with a 9-2 victory, highlighted by Noble Ortega's two doubles and three RBIs.
Nathan Leffel earned the win, pitching five innings and striking out four.
Game 2 provided even more drama, as Fresno City edged the Mounties 5-4 thanks to a walk-off, two-run double from Ortega.
Tyler O'Toole notched the win, recording one strikeout in a third of an inning.
After holding a 3-2 lead heading into the ninth inning, the Rams gave up two runs in the top of the frame but rallied in their final at-bat to secure the sweep.
Fresno City now looks ahead to a three-game series with Cosumnes River, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday.
