Rams' second-quarter surge boosts postseason hopes in win over Sacramento City
Capture what happened Saturday afternoon under Ratcliffe Stadium lights.
If the Fresno City College football team wants to make the postseason, gathering some wins would be a start.
That is what happened Saturday afternoon at Ratcliffe Stadium when the Rams scored 21 points in the second quarter, en route to a 31-7 victory over Sacramento City in a Valley Conference game.
"Played inspired," said Rams coach Tony Caviglia, who recently announced his retirement at season's end. "We really had a good week of practice, and we're able to bring that effort onto the field."
The Rams (3-4, 1-1) will probably need to win out to have a chance at the postseason.
Fresno City has three games remaining, which include a road trip to Monterey Peninsula, followed by a home game against College of the Sequoias, and finishing against Reedley.
A conference title remains alive, albeit by a long shot. Other things need to happen for that to come to fruition.
Rams running back Jordan Colbert scored the game's first touchdown. He finished with 91 rushing yards to lead all rushers in that department.
"We know what type of caliber team we are," he said. "We just focus on one game at a time. Not everything's going to go our way all the time, but we do the best we can."
The Rams put an exclamation point on their win when punter Dean Scrivner faked a punt and ran it in for a 42-yard run in the second quarter.
Scrivner said that the call was in the works during the week of practice.
It all came full circle for him.
"We saw something similar against Modesto," he said. "(Special teams) coach Rick Scheidt called the wedge and (we) had great blocks that whole run. It was beautiful."
