Fresno City takes on City College of San Francisco
Tony Caviglia hardly had any luck when his Fresno City College football team visited City College of San Francisco.
The longtime Fresno City coach hadn't won there since 2007 after losing seven straight.
His luck turned for the better Saturday in the CCCAA Northern California regional playoffs.
Fresno City got big plays from quarterback Christian English and running back Jordan Colbert in a 56-38 victory over CCSF.
"I think our (players) are excited to play the game," Caviglia said. "We worked real hard these last two weeks, preparing for this game and I'm just really proud of the way this team performed."
The win sends Fresno City into the next round at San Mateo on Nov. 29.Kickoff is set for noon.
Colbert scored on a 75-yard run in the first quarter and a 63-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Fresno City had its way against CCSF.
Despite giving up 35 points, Fresno City's defense held its own, making plays that included an interception by Brandon Holmes and Josh Wilson. Elijah Wilson and Jacob Wilson recorded sacks for Fresno City.
Fresno City shutout CCSF in the third quarter.
"Our defense took a while to adjust to the speed and tempo of their offense," Caviglia said. "When they did, we started actually playing really good."
