FCC RAMS ADVANCE TO SUPER REGIONAL
May 8, 2025

Fresno, CA

The Fresno City College (30-12) softball team already has seen what top-seed West Valley (39-3) can do.

The teams met April 19 where the #8 Rams had a 4-0 lead in Game 1 in the top of the fourth inning.

1 West Valley offense fought back, the Vikings scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 11-6 victory.

West Valley followed that win with a 9-2 win for the sweep.

The teams meet again at 2 p.m. Friday to open the CCCAA Northern California Super Regionals in Saratoga. Game 2 is set for noon Saturday, with Game 3 to take place 30 minutes later, if necessary.

First-Team All CVC pitcher Sara Barbosa, said a lot was learned from their game against West Valley.

"We know what to expect," Stephanie Sanchez said. "We're going to come and play strong and give it our all. We never know when it could be our last game.

"I think we grew a lot from that game. We had to learn how to shake it off and bounce back and we needed to score runs when people were on base. We need to find ways to bring them in."

Said Barbosa: "We've studied, and we know what they got last time we faced them. They threw mainly everybody so now it's just studying and staying true to our game."

Of note: Rylee Gomez and Briana Chambers Lee each lead West Valley with five home runs; Andrea DeJesus 13 doubles; Chambers Lee 12 doubles; DeJesus 52 RBI; Ashlie Nakano 12-0, 1 save, 61 Ks, 1.93 ERA.

Sayler Steiner has 37 RBI; Olivia Moscardi nine home runs; Lexi Rossotti 39 steals; Sara Barbosa 14 wins, 1.73 ERA, 102 K's

"West Valley has a powerful offense, balanced with speed and power. We are familiar with their facility, program and excited for the opportunity. Our goal is to play our game, something we weren't able to do on defense in April. Post Season is a New Season, and I'm eager to see what we can do when it's all on the line. An opportunity to play against the best is always our goal." -Linda Garza Head Coach of Fresno City College.
