Bill Musick Open memorial tournament draws 275 wrestlers at Fresno City College
Fresno City College wrestling coach Paul Keysaw always admired Bill Musick. Both would talk often and share stories.
Keysaw looked up to Musick and viewed him as a pioneer of Fresno City College wrestling.
Keysaw wanted to honor the Fresno Athletic Hall of Famer and named a wrestling tournament after him, called the "Bill Musick Open."
The name was changed later after Musick died in 2015, and is now called the "Bill Musick Open Memorial Wrestling Tournament."
Keysaw said the tournament has grown each year.
"Musick was an absolute legend in the sport of wrestling," he said. "He's affected so many young men's lives. That's just a great honor for me to name this tournament after him."
The tournament was held Saturday at the Fresno City gymnasium and featured 275 wrestlers and 16 teams.
Tournament host Fresno City won the tournament with 145.5 points, ahead of Cerritos (141.5) and Mt. San Antonio (100.5).
The Rams had one wrestler place first, two runner-up finishers, three fourth-place finishers, and one eighth-place finisher.
Fresno City will host Mt. San Antonio for the state dual championship on Nov. 23.
